In an exciting new development, Google has decided to provide over 44,000 scholarships to young Pakistanis by the end of the year 2023.

Prior to this, the company also launched its GCC or Google Career Certificates, and now, the scholarships will facilitate Pakistanis wanting to gain access to in-demand digital skills. With initiatives like GCC and scholarships, Google will aid in creating equal opportunities for people from different backgrounds and groups to gain access to job opportunities and digital skills.

Google has added three additional courses, Business Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Advanced Data Analytics to its Career Certificates Program to help Pakistani women and young graduates to earn employer-recognized certificates. The effort is in partnership with TechValley and IRM.

Google Pakistan Country Director, Farhan Qureshi, said that Google was committed to helping build an inclusive digital economy in Pakistan through its services, programs, and products. He further added that digital skills are sought after in Pakistan at a high rate as it is the number three freelance economy in the world.

“We want to help people get qualification online for jobs that are in demand, high growth, and well paying,” he said.

It is important to mention here that Google’s focus has been on distributing 50% scholarships to women. A Data Analyst Freelancer and recent GCC graduate in Data Analytics, Iqra Malik, said that the course transformed her life by providing her with a valuable new skill that allowed her to excel in freelance work. She added that this has allowed her to support her family financially, and take on various projects on clients.

Google’s partners IRM and TechValley are also launching a soft skills program for GCC graduates to create well-rounded professionals. The online program covers major topics like communication skills, time management, critical thinking, and personal branding.
